What are the differences between the SL-1200 MK2 and MK5? Is the '5' worth the extra money? Or will a MK2 sound just as good?

OK, well the MK2 is now Technics intro model turntable
The SL-1200M3D has been discontinued
The SL-1200MK5 is basically a M3D with the addition of a pure white LED in place of the Neon pop up stylus illiminator light
The SL-1200MK5G is the 30th anniv model and has a few more features:
Increased pitch range +/- 16 % instead of the standard +/- 8%
Improved tonearm construction and adjustment
Enhanced Anti - Skating adjustment
and a $550 price tag compared to $399 for the MK2
you decide what you need

I think you are thinking about the MG5, the MK5 is almost exactly the same as the M3D except that it does have the different pop up light. The rest of the improvements you stated are found on the MG5 anniversary edition along with the price. The MKII should only be about $20-30 less than an MK5.
