I purchased two (2) SL-1700MK2 on ebay as part of my Stereo System Upgrade. I wanted semi-automatic turntables with the look and performance of the SL-1200MK2. The SL-1700 fit the bill perfectly. When I received the turntables, I discovered that both units had problems with their Cueing Mechanisms. Also, the turntables auto-return mechanisms did not work. Even though both turntables were in very good condition, I was not a happy camper.
I read about the horror stories about purchasing pre-owned turntables on ebay, but I didn't think this would happen to me; but it did. Face with the dilemma of having to chalk up the cost of two turntables and purchasing two brand-new SL-1200MK2, I decided the best option was to have my two (2) 1700s repaired.
I decided to search the Web for companies that repair Technics Turntables. After about 15 minutes of web searching, I found the Revolutions website at www.turntabletech.com. They have a phone # if you wanted to talk to someone about the repairs of your turntable in greater detail. After speaking to Jay at Revolutions, I decided to ship my two (2) turntables for much needed repairs.
In June 2005, I had repair work done on my two (2) SL-1700MK2 at Revolution Lab. Included in the repairs was turntable maintenance level-1; Cue, Stop, Return Repair; and changing my LED Stylus Illuminator to the Blue LEDs. The Blue LEDs really enhance the look of my SL-1700MK2s and the total price was very reasonable.
I was very pleased with the professional work done by Revolution and recommend them to anyone who owns a Technics Turntable that is in need of repair or maintenance; especially if you buy one on ebay.
